Drums have been played the mother beat since celebrations began.  Beautifully different in different cultures, the drum names are as lovely as the places they come from: conga, tom-tom, djembe and ashiko.  This JAMTOWN drum is a Rebana (ruh-bah-nah), hand made and painted in Java, Indonesia.  The Rebana is played during traditional Muslim ceremonies.  This style of frame drum is ancient an many variations are found throughout Asia and the Middle East.  The Rebana is sheep skin stretched over a wood frame.  To tune the drum simply place it near a heat source and the skin will tighten.  8" diameter with striker and instructions.
