Fair Trade Partner: Baskets of Cambodia
Baskets of Cambodia was formed in 1996 in war-torn Cambodia and was already over 4 years old when they met Sreh and her 8 children in a village outside of Phnom Penh. Sreh had begun experimenting with a new way of making purses from "tatami style" mats and yet they had no orders, no interest, and no market. Sreh was also a widow who was HIV Positive and she was very interested in working with Baskets of Cambodia to create something for her family to make. Baskets of Cambodia became involved and now employs almost 200 people who make "tatami style" purses that are used worldwide. Baskets of Cambodia pays producers well above the current fair trade standard and welcomes visitors to thier facilities in Cambodia. Sreh still works with them and her son helps direct quality control.
